Hospice For Cancer Patients

Hospice is the care provided to a person in the final stages when there is no hope of cure or the person is terminally ill. The concentration is more on caring for the person and not in curing them as the main aim is to keep them as comfortable as possible and free from pain and suffering. Most often hospice care is only given during the end stage when there is very little that can be done to cure the person. This however, does not mean that the end is hastened or delayed it is only made more comfortable.
Each person may need a different kind of care and support program at hospice. Mainly the person has to be given emotional support and guidance in spiritual matters so that death is not a frightening experience for them. Apart from this it is the pain and the symptoms which have to be managed. It also helps the care givers at home to get some respite when they are unable to cope with nursing the person for long periods. For those who do not know how to nurse a sick person hospice provides them with some sort of training and helps them to look after the patient more suitably. Terminally ill people suffer more with bed sores and other such problems and this is where the care givers have to be given training.
When hospice provides care at the patients home often equipment is not available here and this is also given to them. Drugs, oxygen, wheel chairs and suitable beds are all provided for the patient if required. The patient feels much happier in their own home and this is made possible because of hospice care. Patients who are terminally ill with cancer are made to lead their end time in greater comfort with more understanding and emotional support than they would find in a nursing home or hospital.
